Whether we like it or not, there is simply no “perfect” job. Whether you work in a restaurant or warehouse, or enjoy the view from your sun-drenched 23rd floor corner office, every career path has its ups and downs. But when it comes to business, the nine-to-five grind definitely has its challenges. The petty politics, gossip, boot licking, and sometimes overwhelming stress are just a few of the things employees need to navigate the business minefield.

The good news, however, is that there are workers who have set out to make our journey that little bit easier. Like TikToker Taha_haha_ who recently went viral for creating a series of videos about the struggles of her day-to-day business life. The worker shared the lessons she learned the hard way — so you don’t have to.

From advice on how to use PTO to when to change jobs, the woman’s tips seem to have resonated with many employees. Over 2.4 million people have watched one of her clips and engaged in things they recognized themselves as they climbed the corporate ladder. “Being the hardest working person won’t get you as far as you think you will,” Taha_haha_ said in one of her tips, and she’s certainly right. We’ve long heard that efficient employees are punished with more work instead of being recognized for their efforts. Going the extra mile to help your business succeed and feeling undervalued for doing so is certainly disappointing and negatively impacts our well-being. In addition, pushing your limits can even affect your mood and lead to burnout.

As Joshua Klapow, Ph.D., psychologist and creator of MentalDrive, explained in a previous interview, burnout is a condition officially recognized as an occupational hazard by the World Health Organization. He mentioned Bored panda Some of the key symptoms that people in traditional corporate roles often overlook, but to look out for nonetheless:

  • Fatigue related to work
  • Emotional detachment and/or apathy for the job
  • Dissatisfaction with the work environment despite changes or positive changes
  • Difficulty concentrating at work, reduced productivity and efficiency, greater error rate
  • A general dislike of current work without an optimistic view of future changes

When employees experience burnout and stress due to too much work, it’s important to take time off. Unfortunately, people often feel guilty about abandoning their projects, fear losing the respect of their peers, and are reluctant to use their PTO. But according to leadership expert Selena Rezvani, every worker needs the PTO to refuel, rather than seeing it as something to use when there’s a large surplus.

“Research shows that North Americans are the most stressed workers in the world. When you think about it, it’s hard to be obsessed with results and NOT burn out,” she said. “I tell people that dedication and hard work are things to be proud of, but when we take regular time off we have better health, stamina and commitment at work. Not only that, we are actually more capable and working harder.”

The leadership expert explained that “PTO guilt” is real and there is still a stigma against a well-deserved vacation. “Employers need to stop shaming holidays and encouraging people to have ‘perfect attendance’. I think it’s crazy that there are workplaces that give out perfect attendance bonuses and financial incentives to those who don’t use their PTO at the end of a period,” she added, noting that it’s not conducive to normal human rhythms, eh a robot to work .

“As a grown adult who knows their body, don’t ask a person to provide a justification or reason for coming out! It’s time to normalize regular PTO use as more than half of Americans don’t eat all of their PTO in a year – compared to France where 90% of people eat all of their PTO.”

Additionally, leaders and management should encourage employees to fully withdraw when taking time off. “This matters because when Americans take vacations, 41% report to work while they’re away, and a whopping 84% of executives have canceled vacations to work.”
