Still strong – and laughing at the same time. MattJames and Rachel Kirkconnell only open Us weekly about their dynamic more than a year after meeting in Season 25 of The bachelor.
“I feel like with everything we’re going through and whatnot, it’s pretty important to just have fun together no matter where we are or what we’re doing,” said the 25-year-old Georgian native Us during a joint interview with James, 30, of TAO Beach Dayclub at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. “We have to make the best of everything”
The former Bachelor agreed, telling the story Us, “We like to have a good time. And I think it’s important to share every aspect of who you are, you know, with the people who care enough to get involved, and a lot of what we do in our everyday lives is very playful. I think many other couples are in the same situation – we are not alone in the way we interact and talk to each other. When people see that, it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing the same thing.’ It just helps if they can identify with you.”
Fans of the couple know they traveled extensively in the summer of 2022, including a vacation to Greece and Italy which featured a viral video of James pushing Kirkconnell into the pool.
“The prank wars have only just begun,” the Wake Forest graduate quipped. “I think I’m due for some[thing] really bad. I know it’s coming and I sleep with one eye open and carefully go around every corner.”
Kirkconnell remarked, “Here’s the thing – obviously he knows it’s coming [so] I have a strike if he really thinks that won’t happen again. I’m playing the long chess game, but it’s going to happen.”
Her final trip took her to Sin City, where Evian and Tao Group Hospitality launched the first-ever “Water Residency” to coincide with the launch of Evian Sparkling Water.
“[I’m] training for a marathon, [there’s a] Heatwave, this is going to be the hottest item on the menu. I’ll tell you right now – alcohol is out, water is in,” James said Usand confirmed that he plans to run the London Marathon in October. “It’s cool to be able to go out and [have a] classy, sophisticated way of ordering, you know, sparkling water and not be looked at otherwise. It’s like, ‘Oh, he just got the sparkling Evian Tower!’ It’s going to be something and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
When it comes to their future together, the duo expects coming out of bachelor nation there will always be questions about an engagement.
“I think we understand where they’re coming from because obviously we’re from a show that expects an engagement at the end and stuff like that. Now of course it hasn’t gone anywhere because they’ve been anticipating it since day one,” Kirkconnell said Us. “So I think we just sort of got used to it at that point because, like I said, they’ve been expecting it throughout our relationship. I don’t think it really affects us anymore – or it really ever has.”
When James remarked that setting a schedule was “socially constructed,” Kirkconnell laughed. “The only timeline I give him is that I was like, ‘I have to have kids before that, you know, I can’t have kids.’ So keep that in mind,” she said Us.
