As a world famous country singer Shania Twain knows a thing or two about singing a love song. With hits like “You’re Still the One” or “Any Man of Mine” she made it clear that she has some experience in this department. These days she is promoting her new documentary Not just a girl on Netflix and has been living a happy life with her husband for 11 years, Frederic Thiebaud. But their path to happiness came after they got over an intertwined heartbreak.

The couple first met in the 1990s and at the time both were married to other people. She was with the producer Robert “Mutt” Langeand the Swiss businessman was married Marie Anne Thiebaud. When Mutt hired Marie-Anne to be the family assistant, she quickly became one of Shania’s dear friends. They were so close that the four even took vacations and spent the holidays together.

In 2008, Shania and Frédéric’s world was rocked when Mutt and Marie-Anne had an affair. The result: Shania split from her 14-year-old husband and quickly leaned on Frédéric’s moral support.

“The person who comforted me was Fred because he was going through the exact same thing,” Shaina said Oprah Winfrey about the beginnings of the couple’s relationship. “Fred was safe. So it was really a beautiful and perfect friendship.”

But with mutual heartbreak came an unexpected love story. Shania and Frédéric fell in love and were often seen on vacation with their son, Ejiaand his daughter Johanna. In December 2010, their relationship was sealed when the duo confirmed their engagement.

Among those who supported her was Frederic. “I am pleased to share some personal news with you. I’m in love!” she added. “Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud was a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time that precious friendship has blossomed into amazing love. Fred and I are thrilled to announce our ENGAGEMENT!”

Shania and Frédéric tied the knot on New Year’s Day 2011, a spokesman said persons, “They married at sundown in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends.” But that was just the beginning. She was in the public eye during her first marriage, she said red book that her second husband loved creating little private moments between the two.

She revealed to the magazine how she fell in love with him when she saw him going through the same vulnerable situation. “I watched Fred go through the same thing I did and I admired how he dealt with it,” Shaina told the outlet. “That’s where I fell in love with him because he was so exemplary in every way.”

In the early years of her marriage, Shania achieves many career highlights. She began a two-year residency in Las Vegas in 2012 and credited her husband with having the strength to take the stage after nearly a decade. She starred in a number of projects including 2020 I still believe. But as she continued to battle Lyme disease, Frédéric quickly proved to be a constant force at her side. The country singer was bitten by a tick in 2003, which carried the disease and affected her vocal cords.

More than a decade after they first shared their grief at the loss of their marriages, he’s there for her, and Shaina thanks him for it.

“I’m so grateful that I found the faith and courage to love again — because the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling down is love again,” the country singer said persons in February 2020. “When you have a great loss, lose faith; You become very discouraged. I’m sure a lot of people say, ‘I’ll never love again. I never want to fall in love again. ‘ Songs were written about it. I’m really glad that’s changed for me, and that’s this relationship.”
