Sir Patrick Stewart surprised fans with a huge cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He also offered some advice to one of Marvel’s newest stars, Xochitl Gomez, who plays America Chavez in the sequel.
While speaking with Insider about the film’s home release, Gomez shared that she was on set when they filmed the big Illuminati scene, which featured Stewart, John Krasinski, Hayley Atwell and other actors in brief guest appearances as variants of popular Marvel characters. heroes appear .
“I have to meet them all. I have to meet John, I have to meet Hayley,” Gomez told Insider. “I actually had a wonderful chat with John, but also with Sir Patrick Stewart. He gave me great advice.”
“He just sat there and had a good time talking to me and said, ‘Make sure you pay it up front and make people very welcome’ and that’s what he did to me – he just made me feel Being me was welcome and it was easy, it was surreal,” Gomez continued.
The actor added, “He’s just such a beautiful soul and has this care for him that made me feel like I was being hugged. I was like, ‘Oh yeah!’”
Gomez said the Illuminati scene was a bit different due to the ever-evolving script changes, telling Insider, “The Illuminati scene was originally shorter and there were different characters in it.”
The Illuminati group we see in the final film consists of the leader of the Fantastic Four, Reed Richards (Krasinski), Captain Carter (Atwell), Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Professor Charles Xavier (Stewart), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch) and Black Bolt (Anson Mount reprising his role from ABC’s canceled “Inhumans” show).
Gomez already sounds like she keeps Stewart’s advice in mind when interacting with fans.
When asked what it was like to see the reactions to her superhero character on screen and what it meant to her, she said: “I got to play Dawn on ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ and so there were a lot of girls that felt seen and texted me, “I’m so happy you’re on screen. I feel like I have someone to represent me. And then, in the Marvel movies, to take that to a much bigger level to bring, it’s a lot.”
“When people come up to me, it’s kind of crazy because I never thought I’d have that much influence until there’s girls who literally tremble to meet me and they hug me,” Gomez added. “Some of them don’t even want a photo. They just want to hug me and I think that’s so cute.”
Gomez said her “heart just glows” when she sees fans cosplaying as her character.
“It’s like, wow, people appreciate the character so much,” Gomez said of seeing people dress up as America. “I’m lucky that there are also people who want to see more of her.”
Gomez teased that she hopes we’ll see more of America Chavez in Phases V and VI of the MCU since the next chapter of the Marvel movies is called the Multiverse Saga and, as the actor pointed out, “you don’t really get the fact can ignore that their powers travel across the multiverse and the next chapter of the MCU is literally the multiverse saga.”
