It’s San Diego Comic-Con weekend and the Marvel Studios panel is fast approaching. To say fans are excited to see what Kevin Feige and company have in store would be an understatement. Although there is still some time until the big event, it seems like a cool piece of material has already appeared. Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have received the first official look Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania about a cute piece of art. Not only that, the image also shows the first official glimpses of Kang the Conqueror and a new MCU hero.
Andy Park, Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, posted his amazing picture on Instagram. The beautiful render features the titular Ant-Man and Wasp alongside Cassie Lang, who wears a purple suit similar to hers. And in the background, she towers over none other than Kang the Conqueror. No, we’re not talking about He Who Remains – this is actually Kang. Check out the image below for yourself:
Fans have been excited to see more from Kang, and while this is just a snippet of what we can expect, it definitely looks promising. Based on Andy Park’s work, he and director Peyton Reed seem to have settled on a look that’s relatively similar to the character’s standout looks in the comics. One would think that the almighty being would look even more intimidating in real footage. I don’t know about all of you, but I can’t wait to see more!
in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaThe Conqueror is played by the formidable Jonathan Majors, who previously portrayed the aforementioned villain variant in Loki. Majors has talked about getting Kang to threequel, and while he’s been careful not to drop spoilers, it sounds like this being is very different from the one he played on the Disney+ show. And that makes sense considering that this person is a lot meaner and has done some terrible things throughout their history in Marvel Comics.
On the other hand, it’s great that the two heroes will have some help in their fight against the powerful enemy. Cassie Lang, who fans met as a young child in the franchise’s 2015 original film, is now a teenager and is played by Kathryn Newton – who was ripped for her MCU debut. The character has always dreamed of standing next to her superhero father, so it certainly comes full circle.
Cassie’s future in the movie universe isn’t set in stone yet, but those who’ve read the comics probably think that she will eventually become the hero named Stature. Such a development would make perfect sense and if so, this could become their “crucible” so to speak. Cassie’s likely superhero status makes her another prime contender for the Young Avengers that could soon be established within the MCU.
After this poster reveal, one has to wonder if Marvel Studios will actually be showing any footage Quantumania, which finished filming last November and will arrive sooner than expected (albeit with a trade-off). I think there’s a good chance footage with Kang and Cassie will be shown. But whether it will be released to fans not lucky enough to be in Hall H is another story.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is slated to hit theaters on February 17, 2023. While you wait for the movie, watch the first two by streaming them with a Disney+ subscription.
