Neve Campbell on leaving Scream 6 and Sidney Prescott

“I am sure they will make a good film.”

Last month, Neve Campbell shocked horror fans around the world when she announced her departure from the next Scream Movie, scream 6

Neve announced to Deadline that she was leaving the long-running franchise after salary negotiations broke down. “As a woman, I’ve had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to it Scream,” she said. “I felt like the offer I was presented with didn’t match the value I brought to the franchise.”

She also described her decision to step down as a “difficult decision”. “To all mine Scream Fans I love you,” she added. “You have always been so incredibly supportive of me. I am forever grateful to you and for what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

Of course, that means Neve won’t appear in one Scream film since the first part of the franchise in 1996 – and according to Comicbook.com, she recently spoke publicly about her departure.

During a panel interview at the Mad Monster Party Arizona event, Neve reportedly addressed the fact that she won’t be reprising her iconic character, Sidney Prescott.

“There were plans for Sidney and sadly they’re gone,” Neve said, before adding, “I’m sure they’ll make a good movie.”

Neve’s comments come after several previous ones Scream Co-stars also opened up about their departure from the franchise.

David Arquette – who also featured in the top five Scream Movies – told Comicbook.com that their decision was “kind of unfortunate”.

“I understand her decision,” he continued. “In a way it’s all a business, you have to balance all of those elements to create a budget and produce a film. I understand she’s still alive! she [can] Definitely going to be in future ones, but I think it’s up to the fans to request this in the future. […] It’s sudden, but it’s a business. I definitely respect her decision.”

Emma Roberts – who played the lead role scream 4 back in 2011 – also commented on Neve’s departure. “Someone sent me this last night and I was like, ‘This can’t be real news. That must be fake!’” she said. “I mean, she’s queen. That’s all I have to say.”

That is real. Hopefully ours Scream Queen can get the respect she deserves and return for a future installment — the franchise just won’t be the same without Sidney.
