Studio Pierrot, the company behind the Naruto anime, is revealing new artwork by NBA player Zion Williamson to celebrate the show’s Nike partnership.
New art from Studio Pierrot was unveiled at the Naruto Anime’s 20th Anniversary panel at this year’s San Diego International Comic-Con.
The anime studio behind Naruto’s animated adaptations presented new artwork from NBA All-Star Zion Williamson, who portrays the New Orleans Pelicans’ power forward as a Shinobi from the Hidden Leaf Village. The graphic was created to celebrate the collaboration between the Shonen franchise, sneaker manufacturer Nike and Williamson, which has resulted in a new collection of Naruto-themed Jordan Zion 1 sneakers. This is the second published artwork depicting Williamson as one Naruto Character; Previously, series creator Masashi Kishimoto gifted the basketball player with a unique hand-drawn portrait depicting Williamson in Naruto’s costume. Williamson has spoken frequently about his love for the Naruto franchise and has stated that anime and manga have been a huge inspiration for him. A picture of the new art was shared on Twitter by @ToonamiSquad.
The SDCC panel was part of the ongoing celebrations surrounding the 20th anniversary of the original anime’s premiere. The celebrations began at the recent Jump Festa convention, held in Japan last December. A new logo for the series was unveiled there, presenting Naruto in all three eras of the series: his original appearance from the beginning of the series, his youthful appearance Shippudenand he as an adult, so he appears in the epilogue of Shippuden and during the Boruto Series.
That Naruto Franchise began with a manga by Masashi Kishimoto, first published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999. The series is the fourth best-selling manga of all time with over 250 million copies sold. Kishimoto’s manga series has been adapted into two separate anime series, the original Naruto in 2002 and its sequel, Naruto Shippuden, who adapted the second, post-timeskip half of Kishimoto’s manga. The series continues to this day Boruto: Naruto Next Generationa manga and anime series revolving around Boruto’s son as Naruto, who has now fulfilled his dream of becoming the Hokage, struggles to raise the rebellious youth while protecting the village of Konohagakure.
That Naruto and Naruto Shippuden Anime are both available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations The manga and anime sequel is currently still ongoing: new chapters are released monthly by VIZ Media, while new episodes of the show are available for streaming via Crunchyroll.
