MCU boss hints at Tom Holland’s Spider-Man future ahead of Phase 5

Marvel Studios is back at the forefront of the movie world after an impressive showing at San-Diego Comic-Con 2022 that included news on more than a dozen projects from phases 4, 5 and 6. Much love was one of Marvel’s most popular heroes – Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

When fans last saw the web-slinger, he got his first taste of what the multiverse had to offer as Hollands Spider-Man: No Way Home became the third highest-grossing film in MCU history. Now he remains a complete mystery in a world that doesn’t know Peter Parker exists, but people still have their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, swinging through New York and protecting his city.

With Sony Pictures still responsible for the film rights to Spidey, it will almost certainly be Sony that announces any official future plans for Tom Holland’s solo films in the re-titled Multiverse Saga. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige didn’t want to let an entire MCU presentation go by without reminding fans that Spidey is still very much in the game.

Spider-Man’s “street level” future

Wonder

In a chat with MTV News’ Josh HorowitzMarvel Studios President Kevin Feige gave Spider-Man a quick shout-out while discussing the future of the MCU.

When asked about Harry Styles’ future as Eros after that eternalFeige listed a number of characters that will continue to be present in Phase 5. Above all, however, he mentioned this “Spiders [is] go into the street-level heroes:”

“The adventures of Eros and Pip are something very exciting for us. You’re talking about Ghost Rider, we’ve got Blade, we’ve got Doctor Strange, we’ve got the supernatural angles, we’ve got the street level with our announcement of Daredevil and of course Spidey moving on to the street heroes. And cosmic, and that’s where our friends Eros and Pip live.”

These comments seem to indicate that Spiderman 4 might be a smaller adventure compared to the multiverse spanning adventure of Spider-Man: No Way Home, firmly placing Spidey in New York City’s seedy crime underworld. The street-level nature of the webhead’s next story could fuel fan speculation about the film’s potential villain, especially amid Jacob Batalon stirring the pot regarding a possible appearance as a Hobgobiln.

news on Spiderman‘s next MCU solo adventure was rarified during Marvel’s Hall H mega panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but it’s clear that Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios are clear on where they want to take the character , despite reports that Tom Holland has yet to join the project.

Sony also seems interested in getting the ball rolling, as chairman Tom Rothman recently told the studio “Hope[s] to go to work” on Spiderman 4 soon.

Spider-Man will be returning to the MCU soon

Looking at the bigger picture, Feige’s mention of Spidey’s status as “street level“Held doesn’t divulge much information, but does point out that his next film won’t be as bombastic as Spiderman movies passed. Above all, though, it’s clear that Peter Parker is always on his mind, and the web-slinger who is part of the listed group certainly sees a bright future ahead for him.

In the animated area Spider-Man: Freshman Year will be cast Spidey alongside Charlie Cox’s Daredevil – an exciting on-screen development following their brief interaction in No way home. It’s still a mystery whose other paths he will cross in his next planned trilogy, but the forces at Sony and Marvel are already formulating that next storyline.

Seeing Spider-Man team up more with Daredevil is certainly something fans want, and with Feige mentioning Peter Parker as a street-level hero, that could very well be the case in the future.

Last years hawk eye already established Alaqua Cox’s echo Spin-off rumored to feature Cox’s Daredevil, and there’s hints other heroes like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage could also be on the way. Spider-Man teaming up with these or other characters would certainly give him a new dynamic, and Feige seems to be saying a lot with this comment while saying as little as he does.

Although no release date has been set yet, Spiderman 4 is already in the early stages of development while Holland is taking a temporary break from the MCU. But just hearing Feige mention the hero will have fans looking forward to another series of hilarious web-slinging antics in the next three solo Spider-Man stories.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available on Blu-ray and digital release, as are Holland’s first two Spiderman movies. The film will also return to theaters August through September with the expanded The More Fun Stuff Version.
