The businessman and philanthropist’s European trip came shortly after he requested the termination of his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, for which the company is suing him.

When Musk asked to cancel the deal, he claimed that Twitter had not provided enough information about the number of fake accounts and bots on the social media platform, nor had the company given his team enough data to do their own analysis.

“Sometimes Twitter has ignored Mr. Musk’s requests, sometimes it has refused them for seemingly unjustified reasons, and sometimes it has claimed to do so while giving Mr. Musk incomplete or unusable information,” reads the one obtained by PEOPLE July 8 court filing.

Days later, on July 12, Twitter launched a lawsuit against Musk to “force” his closing of the deal.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Twitter claimed Musk acted in “bad faith” after reaching an agreement to buy the social media platform in April.

“Now, less than three months later, Musk is refusing to honor his obligations to Twitter and its shareholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests,” Twitter said in the lawsuit, which was filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery .

“Having organized a public spectacle to bring Twitter into play, and after proposing and then signing a seller-friendly merger agreement, Musk appears to believe that, unlike any other party subject to Delaware contract law, it gives him free to change their mind and destroy the company, halt its operations, destroy shareholder value and walk away,” the company claimed.

In response to the lawsuit news on social media, Musk tweeted a meme of himself Laughter in a series of four photos.

“They said I couldn’t buy Twitter then they wouldn’t disclose bot information, now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court, now they have to disclose bot information in court,” the meme reads.

Musk officials have not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the suit.

According to CNN, a five-day trial is currently scheduled for October.
