Madonna ‘Hellbent’ on $1.3M purchase of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT – now deemed ‘too expensive’

Madonna is upset with a certain rainbow-toothed monkey.

Bored Ape #3756 is currently listed on OpenSea for a staggering 800.69 ETH, roughly $1.27 million. The superstar tells diversity she longed for it Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT, who has “trippy” fur, an “S&M” hat, a motorcycle jacket, and rainbow teeth.

“I was dying to get an Ape and to say exactly what I wanted: the Ape with a leather motorcycle cap on his head and multi-colored teeth,” said Madonna. “I was told it was inspired and modeled after me and it was purchased by a woman who is a fan of mine. She wanted to sell it to me, but it was way too expensive.”

NFTs are unique blockchain tokens denoting ownership of an asset – in this case, a 2D image of a monkey that comes with other membership benefits such as merch, dedicated Discord access, and access to events.

When asked if Ape #3756 or its characteristics were inspired by the singer, the BAYC creators Yuga Laboratories said decrypt via email that monkeys “are not necessarily designed or modeled after anyone specifically.”

Madonna – whose net worth is $575 million and has grossed $1.2 billion in her productive career, as of forbes estimates– purchased Bored Ape #4988 via MoonPay instead. The crypto payments company pledged 180 ETH ($466,000) for the NFT back in March and deposited it in Madonna’s wallet.

But #4988 isn’t a bad consolation prize. Like Ape #3756, the Ape Madonna wears the black S&M hat and psychedelic fur. But acc Rarity sniper Data is significantly less rare – the NFT she desires is ranked 123rd, while the one she owns ranked 3,754 out of 10,000 NFTs in the collection.

In NFT collections, rarity is determined by how often a given trait appears on an object. The rarer a trait occurs in the entire collection, the rarer the NFT. So, a rarity value is a cumulative rating based on the relative rarity of each characteristic of a single object compared to the rest of the collection.

And Madonna has more than just Bored Apes in her sights. The singer owns two World of Women NFTs, each acquired for around $13,000. She also coined another act (NFTs from Yuga Labs, which will land grant holders in the coming Other side metaverse game).

Madonna also became an NFT creator herself and collaborated beep for a year to develop a series of very NSFW, philosophical Ethereum NFTs called “Mother of Creation”, video renderings of a very naked Madonna in different Sci-Fi environments.

The three NFTs were sold back in May for 170.5 ETH, 66.55 ETH and 72.05 ETH respectively, with the proceeds going to charity.
