Love & Thunder concept art has a nice connection to Captain America

The new Thor: Love and Thunder concept art offers an early look at Thor’s armor with a nice connection to Captain America in Avengers: Endgame.

concept art off Thor: Love and Thunder has a surprising connection to Captain America. Ahead of its release in July Thor: Love and Thunder was one of the MCU’s most exciting upcoming films. It promised the return of fan-favorite characters like Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, this time taking on the mantle of Mighty Thor. Although successful at the box office, Thor: Love and Thunder received a mixed response from critics and audiences, especially compared to its predecessor Thor: Ragnarok, widely regarded as one of Marvel’s strongest films. Nevertheless aspects of Thor: Love and Thunder were praised, including the actors’ performances and comedic moments.

As is usual with any post-release MCU project, the artists who worked on the film started sharing concept art early in production. So far, a look has been taken at alternate character designs and costumes that have been considered Thor: Love and Thunder, including a Gorr that was more comic-accurate than what’s seen in the final film. Other illustrations featured an abridged Lady Sif scene exploring an ice planet before her battle with Gorr. In the film itself, the audience only sees Sif briefly. Concept art offers a fascinating insight into the development of films, particularly big-budget superhero films, throughout the production process.

Now visual artist Aleksi Briclot has shared some additional concept art from Thor: Love and Thunder this time Portrayal of Thor himself. In his caption, Briclot explains the inspiration for the look. Interestingly, this includes Captain America’s armor Avengers: Endgame. Check out the concept art below:

It’s nice to see all the different reference points that Briclot has used for the Thor: Love and Thunder concept art. While the details of Thor’s look are expected in the comics, Captain America’s armor is in Avengers: Endgame is a more surprising piece of inspiration. It works well though – just subtle enough to deliver a deserved recall without exactly replicating the armor. As Briclot suggests, given Steve’s worthiness, the connection to Captain America ultimately makes sense, as shown in one of Avengers: Endgame‘s most celebrated moments.

Although this Thor look has been changed Thor: Love and Thunder, it would have been nice to see it in the last movie. The Captain America-inspired armor would have served as a meaningful way to honor Steve’s influence on the MCU and his friendship with Thor. Nonetheless, Thor’s final look in the film is successful and worthy of celebration as well.
