Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is still active in the MCU despite its new phase with new heroes. Will Thor: Love and Thunder be his last Marvel film?
After the release of Thor: Love and ThunderChris Hemsworth’s tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the subject of recent speculation. Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth Thor solo film, returning as director Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth as the titular character. Thor is one of the few original members of the Avengers, including Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), to remain active in the MCU. As such, talk of Hemsworth leaving Marvel is ramping up, especially as Phase 4 continues to welcome new heroes.
In the early years of the MCU superhero franchise, actors were typically given contracts for multiple projects. Notably, the MCU’s Big Three — Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., and Chris Hemsworth — agreed to deals for six films. However, as the MCU expands and brings in new talent, Marvel Studios is now offering its actors shorter contracts. This change allows the franchise to create better stories without being caged by their character options and surprising their viewers due to their limited knowledge of actors’ contract details. Also, even Marvel actors have no idea if they should come back for another project, although some, including Hemsworth, have already expressed their willingness.
Chris Hemsworth’s original contract with Marvel ended on Avengers: Endgame. However, since his interest in playing Thor was renewed afterwards Thor: Ragnarok, he signed on to make another solo film, impressed with the story and wanting to work with Waititi again. This then begs the question: Is gate 4 Hemsworth’s Last Marvel Movie? Possessed after the credits of Guns ‘N’ Roses Thor: Love and Thunder roll that line”Thor will return‘ appears on screen, signifying that the Asgardian god will return to the MCU.
Does Chris Hemsworth still have an MCU contract?
The confirmation that his Marvel character would return in the future actually surprised Hemsworth, who was only informed about it after the world premiere Thor: Love and Thunder (above United States today). Although no concrete plans for Thor have been announced yet, the Australian actor claims that he has grown from his superhero role and will always be ready to reprise it as often as possible. On numerous occasions, Hemsworth has also shared his enthusiasm for continuing Thor stories; After all, the God of Thunder is only 1,500 years old and there are more tales and realms to explore.
Thor’s future within the franchise remains unclear, it is not yet known if he will next appear in his fifth film or appear in an upcoming Disney+ MCU show or other films. This can come in the form of a film detailing his adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy or his struggles alongside Gorr’s daughter Love (India Hemsworth). Regardless of how Thor: Love and Thunder suggests the now Mjolnir-wielding Thor will play a big part in taking on Zeus (Russell Crowe) as the Greek god seeks revenge through his son Hercules (Brett Goldstein).
