Kristin Cavallari’s marriage to Jay Cutler was toxic

Remember when Kristin Cavallari was married to Jay Cutler?

the previous Lagoon beach and The hills Star married the former NFL player back in 2013. They had three children together, and the couple announced their plans to separate in April 2020.

Kristin and Jay finalized their divorce this June — and in a recent episode of the Call her daddy Podcast, Kristin opened up about why they broke up and how she felt about their marriage in general.

Kristin revealed that there were issues with their relationship before they even got married — and that she eventually called off their wedding altogether.

“I broke off the engagement for the same reason I got divorced — for the same reasons, I should say,” she said. “I guess if there’s one takeaway from this, it’s that you can’t ignore red flags, people don’t change and you have to trust your gut.”

Kristin also said that she is generally reluctant to speak publicly about what went wrong specifically in her marriage for the sake of her children.

“If you and I didn’t have microphones in front of us I would f***ing tell you,” she said, “but that’s her dad and my eldest is googling us now and I just want to be very careful.”

“It was toxic,” she said in reference to her marriage as a whole. “Period, end of story. That’s all I have to say.”

Kristin added that she had been considering divorce for a while before she and Jay officially split.

“I remember always asking my mother, ‘But how should I know?’ and she’d just be like, ‘You’ll just know,'” she recalled. “And I did, I just knew. It’s the scariest thing, it’s also the saddest thing. I mean, there’s so much emotion, but it can also be the best.”

“I was really unhappy, I mean, and that was the bottom line. I was in an unhealthy relationship and it’s not worth it to me.”
