Interview with Dwayne Johnson: ZOA Energy & Black Adam

At this year’s Comic-Con, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson not only impressed with a new trailer for Black Adam and promises about the future of the DCEU, he also got her blood pumping with brand new Collector’s Edition cans from ZOA Energy. Johnson co-founded the brand as well as Seven Bucks Productions and other successful companies like Teremana Tequila. ZOA has achieved remarkable growth in the short time since its inception and the international superstar is a believer in his product from the bottom of his heart.

The Rock believes in ZOA Energy so much that he developed a collaboration between the healthy workout drink and his dream role of Black Adam, a partnership that was launched with great enthusiasm at Comic-Con. Thanks to Johnson’s passion, this is the first time DC Entertainment has approved a collaboration with an energy drink – and if all goes well, it won’t be the last.

During San Diego Comic-Con, screen rant had the pleasure of speaking with Johnson about his unique collaboration, his passion for the ZOA Energy brand and his plans beyond the premiere of Black Adam in theatres.

Screen Rant: you are very passionate Black Adam, and you have a great passion for ZOA. What drives this passion and this collaboration?

Dwayne Johnson: What drives my passion for Black Adam has been with me for a very long time – 10 or 15 years. What drives the passion for Black Adam is the opportunity to create a superhero and antihero never before seen on the big screen; introducing him to the world and expanding the DC Universe by introducing the JSA. This is the passion that drives Black Adam.

The passion that drives ZOA is ZOA is a brand that is very close to my heart. If you look at the tin, one of the most important pieces are elements of my tattoo on the tin. We also wanted to build a partnership that had never existed before. DC had never worked with an energy drink before; this is the first time ever. It’s appropriate, and Black Adam and ZOA together is one hell of a combination.

You talked about not having muscle pads and everything in your Black Adam suit. If you exercise and use ZOA, how does that benefit your exercise and exercise routine?

Dwayne Johnson: ZOA is a formulation. We have two formulations: we have a core ZOA and this formulation, and we also have a ZOA+ Plus which is our pre-workout.

The truth is, joking aside, ZOA is part of my daily ritual. I drink it in the morning. It’s my coffee; I am not a coffee drinker. I also take a ZOA+ Plus as my pre-workout and I will have ZOA throughout the day. It plays a big role in my daily activities: training, work, etc. And I can say that with confidence because we’ve put a lot of time and effort into making sure our formulation was up-to-date, up-to-date, of the highest quality. We’ve had a lot of formulators coming from Procter and Gamble who are very smart men and women.

In the energy drink category, this idea of innovation is often carried with the “just add more caffeine” philosophy. But we wanted to be really innovative with a lot of the ingredients that we add, from amino acids to antioxidants to vitamins etc. So ZOA is a big part of me [routine].

Would you recommend it to someone just starting out? Someone who sees Black Adam and wants to train – not get as strong as you, but close.

Dwayne Johnson: Yeah, if someone wants to look like Black Adam or be as strong as Black Adam then I would definitely say… ZOA isn’t going to help you. [Laughs]

Comic Con by Dwayne Johnson

They were handing out drinks around the con, I don’t know if you noticed. What was the reaction from fans and the public to you?

Dwayne Johnson: It was great; Fantastic. Every time we come here for Comic-Con, the energy is amazing. But this time especially the energy was incredible as we bring Black Adam and the JSA from the DC Universe. There was much anticipation; so it paid off over in Hall H. It was amazing; It was fucking incredible over in Hall H.

You also know that ZOA is a brand that is very close to my heart. There is a lot of love. Everyone gets free ZOA, enjoy it and have a good time.

You mentioned that your tattoo is part of the can design. can you elaborate on the meaning

Dwayne Johnson: Absolutely. I will say that there are elements of my tattoo. But the most important thing for me is my signature. I always like to say that my signature is as good as my handshake. When I shake your hand – when I shake someone’s hand – it means something to me. My handwriting stands for quality, and you can find this handwriting here. You’ll find it on Teremana Tequila, you’ll find it on Project Rock. It’s the most important part.

You’ve been drinking energy drinks, you’ve had tequila. What’s next? If you don’t drink coffee, how many drinks are left?

Dwayne Johnson: Fanny Packs. [Laughs] you gonna buy one You will have a turtleneck sweater.

For ZOA and Black Adam, this is the beginning of a partnership. What happens after the film release? Are you still working together?

Dwayne Johnson: That’s a good question. We will continue it because we will still have many cans left. These cans are collector’s editions and collectibles, but the partnership will continue as long as we can continue to expand the DC Universe with Black Adam.
