With a slightly longer than usual promo, the beginning of the end is officially underway as we take a look at the teaser promo for Hulu’s season finale and Seth MacFarlane‘s The Orville: New Horizons. In the clip below, viewers are shown the episode logline, “The Mystery of Life Enjoys the Passing of Time,” along with a medley of imagery and situations that should be more than enough to get the dumpster fires of random speculation boiling. And considering that fans are still waiting for a fourth season, the title “Future Unknown” takes on so many additional layers of meaning.
With less than a week to go until the Season 3 finale, here’s a preview on Hulu’s The Orville: New Horizons S3E10 “Future Unknown”:
Here’s a recap of MacFarlane’s announcement video from last week, which confirms that the first three seasons will also be heading to Disney+ in August:
When it comes to teasers, MacFarlane addressed the difficult balancing act of figuring out how much to release in a promo or teaser. “Tom Costantino puts these teasers together every week. The challenge is really how much to give away. Look, I’m someone who watches a show and doesn’t want to know anything about what I’m going to watch. When I see something like that like ‘Severance’ or ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ or any of the shows that I watch, I don’t want to know anything about what’s going to happen next week. I don’t want to read an episode synopsis. I don’t want to see a trailer. I want to be totally surprised. And so I tend to use that a bit when deciding what to give away. That was a tough question because we really didn’t want to give anything away about Topa. We wanted people to come by surprise. We just felt that the viewing experience would be most fulfilling and satisfying if it was a total surprise,” explained MacFarlane.
“I don’t know if that was the right move or not. Maybe we tricked people into thinking they were getting Temple of Doom, but that’s exactly what we did. And it’s difficult because you want to give them something to show up for, but at the same time you want to make them… Look, we’re going through this right now. I’m looking at the trailer for next week’s show and trying to decide how much we want to give away, and if we are, are we holding back too much, or holding back too little?
