Two months after he first announced his split from wife Sheree Gustin after 23 years of marriage, General Hospital star Steve Burton has filed for divorce.

The 52-year-old actor gave “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, and via TMZ gave March 1 as the date of the breakup.

Burton took to his Instagram story in May and revealed he had split from Gustin after she revealed she was expecting a child with another man.

Burton and Gustin married in January 1999 and they share three children, 18-year-old Makena Grace, 16-year-old Jack Marshall and eight-year-old Brooklyn Faith.

The actor surprised fans when he took to his Instagram story in May to reveal his split from Gustin.

“I wanted to clarify something. Sheree and I are separated,” Burton began in his Instagram Story post in early May.

“She recently announced that she is expecting her fourth child. The child is not mine,’ he added.

“We are still co-parents to our three beautiful children. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Lots of love Steve,” he concluded.

The split also came months after it was revealed he was fired from his long-running role as Jason Morgan on the soap opera General Hospital for refusing to fulfill their COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

He began playing the role in 1991 and won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1998.

He finally left General Hospital in 2012 and ended up on The Young And the Restless, where he won another Daytime Emmy in 2017.

Later that year, he announced that he was returning to General Hospital, where he remained until his release in November.

A report from People, which surfaced a few days after the announcement of Burton’s split, said that Burton’s firing ultimately took a toll on the relationship.

“Her life was changed as he went through some upheaval and anger over what he felt threatened his freedoms,” a source said.

“He had to leave a show he loved, which caused chaos in his life,” the source added.
