DC SDCC 2022 Panel: News, Trailers, Announcements and More

Warner Brothers’ The panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 was one of the most anticipated of the year, and there were a few updates and announcements for audiences to get excited about.

As we walked into the panel, we expected updates Black Adamthe Shazam! episode that Aquaman Consequence, wonder woman 3, The Batman2 (and other possibilities The Batman spin-offs) and maybe, just possibly an update to that The Lightning. What did we actually get? New trailers for the two films are next on the DC cinema calendar. If you’re looking for the best SDCC 2022 trailers, you’ll find them right here.

The Rock hopes Black Adam and the Justice Society will give the DCEU a “reboot”.

Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming anti-hero film is the next live-action DC film on the list and will introduce the Justice Society. Originally slated for a July release, it was pushed back to October amid a spate of Warner Bros. schedule shifts. A new trailer has been released, starring Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, more from the Justice Society, and a red horned new villain (although that part appears to have been cut from the version released online).

Johnson first appeared on stage in costume before quickly morphing into something less cape-oriented. He talked about giving the DC Universe a fresh start with the Justice Society and the opportunity to expand it further. A fan asked him who would win a fight between Black Adam and Superman, to which the crowd yelled, Johnson replied, “It depends on who’s playing Superman”. but

A new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods features the villains and Rachel Zegler

A surprise hit in 2019, the first Shazam! Movie was the kind of good-natured family fun you’d hope for from this special character. When we got into the SDCC, we had already seen Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as villainous old goddesses. The new trailer gave us a lot more of Mirren (including a moment where Zachary Levis tells Billy Batson he’s seen all the Fast and the Furious movies that Mirren starred in the last one) and our first look at it Westside Story Star Rachel Zegler in the film as a new character with glowing hands.

This was the only film to be pushed back from a 2023 release to December 2022 in the Warner Bros. scheduling changes.

No updates on the other projects, especially The Flash

We thought there might be news about the upcoming sequel to Aquamanor the third Wonder Woman movie or any of the upcoming ones The Batman follow-ups, or the bat girl movie or the Static Shock Movie – basically anything about the other projects. But no! It was just these two new trailers.

First of all, there were no updates The Lightning. DC’s most troubled project is in somewhat of a crisis mode, due in part to the behavior of lead actor Ezra Miller. This film has been in the works long enough that Ben Affleck was added to the cast almost two years ago, and a trailer was released in October 2021. Since then there have been a number of delays and incidents for the Speedster film.

Updates on this project were particularly lacking during the event. The Lightning did make an appearance – a short one, in the trailer for the new Shazam! Movie – but even then, the character’s face was carefully covered or obscured at all times (see above for The Flash Without A Face).
