A note from Jeopardy! EP Michael Davies: New hosts and new initiatives | J!Buzz

Writing today with the exciting news that we have finalized and signed deals with Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings to host Jeopardy! move forward.

The fact is we have so much Jeopardy! and making so many plans for the future that we always knew we would need more presenters for the franchise and we’re just so grateful that Mayim and Ken stepped in and stepped up to make the show a successful one to bring position. And it’s successful. With Mayim and Ken as hosts, the show has grown significantly in viewership year after year, with more than 27 million viewers tuning in each week this season. Considering just about every other show on TV and in syndication is down, this has been a pretty remarkable season: We’re the most-watched entertainment show on all TV. Yes, all television.

With Mayim and Ken we have two outstanding presenters at the beginning of their Jeopardy! Hosting careers that come with their own unique fanbases, new fans, and the traditional Jeopardy! Viewers. Ken will open the season in September, hosting the inaugural Second Chance competition and the highly anticipated Tournament of Champions with Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, Ryan Long and many, many more. His first hosting run will take us through December. Meanwhile, Mayim will host Celebrity Jeopardy! on ABC prime time. When she takes over Ken in January, the current plan is that she has a few new tournaments as well as the Jeopardy! National College Championship and as many weeks as she can handle with her other primetime commitment to Call Me Kat. We know you value consistency, so we won’t be constantly flipping hosts and will keep you updated on the hosting schedule.

Mayim and Ken are both extraordinarily talented and just lovely people. They support the employees and each other. They love and respect this institution of television programming. In return, the employees and I feel honored to work with them.

So, I mentioned our plans for the future…

Well, the future begins this Monday when we launch three new initiatives in a single day:

1. The repeat season is upon us. But instead of repeating our tournaments like in the past, this year my fellow producers and I hand-picked some of our favorite episodes of the season for six weeks, featuring our closest matches, superchamps and some of the people who will be part of our first “Second Chance.” ‘ competition announced.

2. Danger! highlights. Starting Monday, we’ll be releasing a daily three-minute recap of the day’s highlights Jeopardy! Episode on our website, on all our social networks and with our partner affiliates. Now, for the first time, you can follow the key moments of each game.

3. “Within Danger!” Podcast. Because all of this gives us so much to tell and because there is always so much to tell on Jeopardy! (it’s a sport, remember?) We’ll be launching an updated weekly podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts. Hosted by Jeopardy! Producers, including myself, Inside Jeopardy! gives you a behind-the-scenes look at America’s Favorite Quiz Show: everything from gameplay analysis and behind-the-scenes stories to official announcements and special interviews. Please subscribe now to Inside Jeopardy! on Spotify, Apple or wherever you listen to podcasts.

In Monday’s podcast, we’ll be announcing all of the contestants who will be returning for a second chance to become a Jeopardy! Champion. And I will share my vision for the future of Jeopardy! share, including new developments in pop culture and sports, plans for a Jeopardy! Honors Award Show and my biggest and most passionate idea: a Jeopardy! Masters League in prime time or on a streaming platform.

Finally, I would like to congratulate both Mayim and Ken. It was a pleasure working with both of them. They have my commitment, my producer’s oath, that I will focus on nothing but improving the show around them so they can perform at their best and approach each day in the studio with excitement and energy. Speaking of which, we’ll be back on the Alex Trebek Stage on Monday. I can barely wait for it.
