A music industry worker points out similarities in different songs and goes viral

A former music industry worker went viral on TikTok after pointing out similarities in various songs.

The video begins with a clip of a man asking, “Give me an example of how your job ruined your day.” It then switches to user @atlantacobb saying, “I’ve got about ten years in the I worked in the music industry so I can’t really listen to music now.”

The TikToker continues by diving into how much today’s songs are very similar to songs from the past. One of the examples she uses is that Lizzo’s new song “2 Be Loved” is very similar to Lady Gaga’s 2016 “Perfect Illusion.”

“All I can hear is Lady Gaga,” she says of Lizzo’s new song. “It’s always going on in my head. It’s so annoying.” She then goes on to provide other examples of newer songs and their eerily similar counterparts.

@atlantacobb INTERRUPTING THE TRAVEL CONTENT JUST ONCE to show you how working in music has changed the way I listen to music. These are songs that sound the same. 🤯 an example of how my job ruined everyday life #songsthatsoundthesame #lizzo #musicindustry #wlw #similarsongs Stitch with @Barnard.co ♬ 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) – Lizzo

The video has been viewed 1 million times since July 19. Many users agreed that the songs are very similar, and some felt that originality no longer existed in the music industry.

“I was taking music theory classes at university and the professor said there are almost no original chords left, everyone just keeps using them,” said one person.

“I don’t work in music but soon,” agreed a second.

“I knew Harry Styles reminded me of something,” wrote TikTok influencer Sterling Monètt.

Others commented that, like @atlantacobb, when they realize it sounds familiar, they immediately think of a song’s counterpart.

“This happens to me all the time and it was never my job,” shared one user. “I’ve reserved an entire playlist for songs that I know have a double.”

“I’ve been able to do this with music my whole life,” said a second. “I even enjoy it because I can sing other songs over each other.”

“IT’S ALL I DO. My brain can’t stop itself haha,” wrote a third.

“Omg can you please do a series,” asked another user.

At the user’s request and because the first video had such a positive impact, @atlantacobb released a second video featuring popular songs and their doubles, which has since received over 96,000 views.
