4 Road Trip Romance Novels to Read in Summer 2022

Being on vacation can sometimes mean a road trip. In many ways, road trips are the perfect formula when it comes to romance novels.

Most often, road trips are used a lot in historical romances. It makes sense since you’ve essentially been forced together if you want to take a long journey. In contemporary romance, however, road trips can work just as well.

Something about the two people being stuck in the car creates such delicious tension, especially when the two try to fight their attraction. Coupled with the myriad in-car variables, including radio, number of stops and conversations taking place, road trips bring much more to the table than just a shared car ride.

Since most of us vacation during the summer, it’s only right to recommend a few road trip romances that you can read whether you’re traveling or not.

These 4 road trip romance books are solid ones if you love the enforced closeness.

The first is actually the second book in a series, but it can also be read on its own. Managed by Kristen Callihan is a unique twist on this trope. This book follows Gabriel Scott, the manager of a famous rock band, and the romance he has with Sophie. The catch between these two is that Gabriel can’t sleep without her, so she’s basically called onto his bus to cuddle and sleep. It’s as sweet as it sounds, but it also creates a lot of sexual tension for them to indulge in.

If steam isn’t your thing, then then Amy and Roger’s epic detour by Morgan Matson might be something for you. This is a young adult romance between Amy and Roger who are traveling together to bring Amy to her new home. While the two come up with a plan, things quickly take a different turn and they are able to open up to each other. This book is about a lot of grief, including the loss of a parent and the guilt that comes with it. Regardless, this book is perfect for summer and a classic by Morgan Matson.

Those last two books are actually both f/f romances. The first is No rings attached by Rachel Lacey. This one follows Grace and Lia as they fake dates for Lia’s brother’s wedding and then go on a road trip to help Grace find out more about her family. This book is about Grace’s grief over the loss of her parents and the trauma/guilt she is holding on to. Although this book is intense, the road trip element was unexpected but it was a lot of fun.

Last but not least is hairpin bends by Elijah Winters. This is a romance between two ex-boyfriends who are going on a road trip for their mutual friend’s wedding. The book starts in Florida and they travel to Canada so they travel a lot, but this book does an excellent job of creating such delicious tension and lust between the two characters. Of all the books on the list, this one is on the shorter side if you’re just going on a day trip.

Whichever route you choose, road trip romances are perfect to listen to while driving to your destination. If anything, you’ll feel less alone, especially when you’re alone, or you can always share the story with your travel companions. Anyway, one of these love books will hopefully help cheer you up before the end of summer.
