26 Wild and Weird Celebrity Guest Stars

Look, I love a good celebrity guest star. It’s fun to watch your favorite stars dive into your favorite shows! But sometimes huge celebs show up on a show and you’re just like “…huh?”

Usually this happens when the celebrity guest star isn’t an actor or just feels very, very out of place in the subject matter of the show. Here are 26 examples!

We’ll start with the newest: Megan Thee Stallion on She Hulk. I’ll forgive you for this one because I love Megan and it was an after credits scene but… Megan what are you doing??? How relevant are you to the plot???

However, the absolute worst thing is when a singer shows up on a show to do a performance. No, not appearing as themselves at an in-show event, where it at least makes sense. I’m talking about when they play a random character who’s never seen again, who happens to be singing. LIKE SHAWN MENDES ON THE 100

Shawn literally just shows up to sing a professionally recorded song in a literal bunker, then Jasper bodyslams him. And that’s the last we’ll ever see of this character.

But the holy grail of this trope is Ed Sheeran Game of Thrones.

He shows up randomly, sings a song, and then THAT’S IT. It’s even worse than the Shawn example because game of Thrones is a medieval-inspired fantasy show. At least The 100th is near future.

Coldplay’s Will Champion also made an appearance game of Thrones, albeit in a smaller capacity. But what was strange to me is that this bizarre cameo takes place during the Red Wedding, arguably the most violent and iconic Have scene of all time. Why did they need a celebrity cameo in this scene???

It’s definitely more acceptable when the musician guest-star has a real reason for performing, as Carly Rae Jepsen continues lock (She appeared on a fake version of SNL). However, it’s still weird, especially when the show doesn’t usually have full appearances. For example, Castle and Beckett take a complete break from their investigations to jam with Carly Rae Jepsen.

Also, it was super weird when gossip girl had a sort of musical episode where Dan, Vanessa and Olivia had to put on a production snow white with lyrics by Lady Gaga.

And then, at the end, Blair “pulled some strings,” and Lady Gaga SELF showed up to perform. Like a full Grammy Awards-worthy performance for a bunch of NYU students. It was strange to say the least.

Even stranger, Carrie Underwood came up Cobra Kai. You know the karate show? What is an American country singer doing???

It’s not just musicians; Shows will feature all kinds of celebrities. As Bill Nye continues Blind spot, plays himself, but also… Patterson’s father?

Olympic athletes also happened to appear in shows. As gold medal gymnast Kerri Strug continued Beverly Hills, 90210… Kerri is honestly fine in this scene, but I can’t get on with the dialogue. It’s so forced. Who says, “Do I have to win a gold medal or something to get in a class I want?”

Although the absolute best example of this is Shawn Johnson’s performance The American Teen’s Secret Lie where she (I think?) flirts with Ricky. I’ll try to show it below, but screencaps don’t do it justice.

Back to the musicians…A hill of trees was known for its musical guest stars (which mostly made sense since they performed at the in-show club/music venue Tric). But one guest deserves a mention on this list, and that’s Pete Wentz, who made his debut with Fall Out Boy.

Which, good. Normal enough. But things get worse when he shows up AGAIN and FLIRT WITH PEYTON. A 17 YEAR OLD MAN.

THEN THEY START DATING FOR A FEW EPISODES. Like this random high school girl is just… dating Pete Wentz. Should we believe that???

Okay, sorry, I have to mention one more thing A hill of trees one. Season 8 saw many musical guests at Tric, including Kid Cudi. This one was a big deal in my opinion just because Kid Cudi is so big and how much less popular OT was from its prime in Season 8.

But the reason this one is so bizarre is that about ten episodes later, the fact that Kid Cudi appeared becomes a low-key big storyline that somehow reveals Brooke is pregnant. Which is a big deal considering she’s been trying to conceive for years.

It also included the Air Force and Pot Brownies and a flashback to Kid Cudi’s entourage making Chase smoke a joint and the whole thing and the fact that it kind of led to Brooke realizing she was pregnant. .. really a mess.

sorry another one GG one – does anyone remember when the MAYOR of NEW YORK (back then) was a guest? Mike Bloomberg pops up for two seconds in the finale to express his shock that Dan is Gossip Girl. like what???? How does he even know about GG?

supernatural had plenty of wild guest stars, but there’s one that felt PARTICULARLY out of pocket: Paris Hilton. Well, Paris had done a few acting jobs, but for some reason she played herself on the show…but was she a pagan god too?

Even more bizarre was that Hilton recently starred in it wax house with Jared Padalecki, who played Sam on the show. That means if it’s the same Paris, she should recognize Sam as Jared – which doesn’t happen. However, they make a funny hint.

the wildest supernatural However, guest star for me was Snooki. Yes, Snooki from Jersey Shore Fame. Again she plays herself – but she is possessed by a demon.

Next I’m going to nominate one that I really like but was super wild – when Prince showed up new girl

Basically, they end up at a party at his house and he steps in to help Nick and Jess with their relationship troubles. He’s the reason they end the episode on good terms. SO random, but I also kind of love it.

Other new girl one – Taylor Swift. She shows up at Cece and Shivrang’s ill-fated wedding to declare her love to Shivrang in true Speak Now fashion, and while it’s a great casting, it’s SO random.

Another example of an ultra-famous pop star appearing on a show for no real reason is Britney Spears on Jane the maiden.

Turns out Rogelio and Britney have some beef from the past — you know what, as celebrity guest-star explanations say, this one isn’t terrible. Still, Britney freaking Spears just casually hangs out with Jane for much of the episode!

Disney Channel actually had some big guest stars, like Dolly Parton Hannah Montana – although that kind of made sense since the main character was a famous singer. One that made a little less sense? Dwayne Johnson on Wizards of Waverly Place.

Basically, he shows up to visit Max, who is pretending to have a fake disease called Mono-Orangosis. Why The Rock, a huge superstar, over every other actor? No reason.

Another wild one Wizards of Waverly Place Guest star was Shakira.

She literally just walks into the Russo’s sandwich shop. She then turns into Alex’s uncle (who was Shakira the whole time!!!) but I’m pretty sure that just makes this example even more nonsensical.

Another accidental big cameo on a kids show was when Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler showed up as Santa Claus Lizzie McGuire. First off, Steven Tyler is a huge rock star and it was super fortuitous to have him on a kids show. He’s dressed as Santa throughout the episode and ends up singing a song when it’s finally acknowledged that he’s Steven Tyler. It’s SO RANDOM.

Although Hannah Montana was about a celebrity, I still thought it was super weird that Larry David just happened to show up. Like the Venn Diagram by fans of Larry David and fans of Hannah Montana is just… two separate circles.

Another super weird Hannah Montana Guest star was John Cena, who wasn’t actually an actor at the time. He shows up in Jackson’s magazine – then as a full-blown hallucination kicking Jackson’s ass to convince Jackson that reading is fun. No, I didn’t make that sentence up.

One of the biggest stars on this list is Kim K. Given her fame, you wouldn’t expect her to appear on a random sitcom 2 broke girls. But… she does. It actually makes sense to see her in the episode centered around her KUWTK Producers planning to film an episode in Max and Caroline’s cupcake window. Kim only shows up at the very end when she apologizes for not working out. But still – she’s Kim, the damn Kardashian!!! what turns her on 2 broke girls??

Kim and her sister Khloe also quickly showed up 90210 back when they were a little less famous. In the episode, they played themselves and brought Naomi some clothes from DASH.

I think the main reason I found this so odd — besides the Kardashians’ mega fame — was because Naomi openly insults Kim in the scene and perpetuates stereotypes about Kim. Why the heck did Kim want to show up?

And finally, Big Bird on really is the most bizarre example to me The western wing.

What other guest stars did you find super bizarre and out of place? Let us know in the comments!
