For most of us it takes time to discover what we really love. However, one kid in England discovered his passion at a remarkably young age and continues to amaze people with his talent. A 12-year-old named Joe Whale, better known as The Doodle Boy, has become famous for his whimsical doodles. Inspired by his life and interests, his black and white drawings spread across numerous surfaces including murals, canvases and now even books.
“I’ve been drawing and painting since I was three years old and art has been a big part of my life – I’ve drawn, painted and crafted at every opportunity and it hasn’t changed to this day,” says Whale on his website. When he was 9 years old, he was scolded for doodling in class, so his parents sent him to an after-school art class. Whale’s amazing skills were quickly noticed by his classmates and instructors, and he was offered the opportunity to decorate the interior of a restaurant in his hometown.
Since then, word of Whale’s drawing talent has spread, earning him fame across the UK and beyond. His doodles span a wide and seemingly endless range of characters with charming cartoon-like faces. “My favorite characters to draw are food, monsters and aliens,” explains Whale, “but I actually create doodles out of everything because I get inspiration from my surroundings and create characters out of all the things I see, like my burger and mine French fries characters, flowers, vegetables, cakes – yummy, clouds, etc.”
The young artist is currently illustrating an ongoing book series entitled Bad food, written by Eric Luper. You can buy the first book scones gameand the sequel The good and the bad and the hungryy now, as well The official Doodle Boy coloring book, which contains 90 pages of ink drawings. Additionally, Whale’s Doodle art prints and merchandise are available through its online store. And if you want to keep up with Whale’s drawing adventures, you can follow him on Facebook and Instagram.
